Here are a list of winter shutoff protection programs for low-income and senior citizens.

American Red Cross
Utility Assistance Programs

Assist those citizens in the community who have difficulty paying

their utility bills, particularly during the cold winter months, by providing limited financial assistance and budget counseling. Referrals needs

to include picture identification, proof of family income, and the

delinquent bills.

   credit counseling and debt management assistance.

AT&T Lifeline Program
Provides qualified low income customers with discounts on new phone installation, service transfers and telephone bills. Please call for more details.

Consumers Energy
The Winter Protection Program
protects seniors and low-income

customers from service shutoff and high utility payments

between November 1and March 31. They essentially shift

some of the cost of a household's heating bill from the winter

months to the non-winter months, thus making payments more affordable during the winter.

Has numerous programs to help people struggling to pay their bills. The programs include: Winter Protection Program, Home Heating Credit, Positive Billing Program, State Emergency Relief Program, Heat and Warmth Program, Medical Emergencies, Earned Income Credit and Weatherization Program. State Emergency Relief Program
This program may help low-income households pay part of their heating or electric bills and may help keep their utilities in service or have service restored. Anyone can apply for help. The program is available year-round.
