SUBSTANCE ABUSE

The following is a list of self-help and support groups and treatment centers for persons with substance abuse. Please remember to contact each organization by phone prior for the latest information. Also provided are the list of support groups for friends and families of substance abusers as well as various support groups for addictions other than substances. ACCESS-WCHO Health Services
Central entry point for Substance Abuse Treatment Services

in Washtenaw and Livingston Counties for recipients who

are uninsured or who have Medicaid. Individuals seeking

substance abuse treatment services receive a comprehensive

screening completed by a professional Social Worker or Public

Health Nurse.

Alano Club
Non-profit, educational, rehabilitation association and

facility; the mission of which is to provide a facility for

recovering persons and groups concerned with alcohol

and/or substance abuse problems so that they may gather in

a sober, drug-free environment. Their primary intent is to make

this facility available to Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon,

Alateen, and other "12 step" groups for meetings, social

activities, and recreational activities, as well as provide

educational and therapeutic alternatives to assist in recover-

ing productively.

Alcoholics for Christ
Inter-denominational, non profit, Christian fellowship that

ministers to three groups: Alcoholics or Substance abusers,

Family members- those who relate regularly with an alcoholic

or substance abuser, and Adult Children - individuals who

were raised in alcoholic, substance abuse or dysfunctional

families12-Step recovery program for Christian alcoholics. For

Self help support group which uses the Twelve Step method

Alcohol Management
The Alcohol Management assists individuals in decreasing or

eliminating their alcohol consumption and is appropriate for

 individuals with mild to moderate alcohol dependence who are

 motivated to eliminate the negative consequences they are

experiencing from alcohol. Eligibility and participation in their

study allow free participation with some compensation as well.

Ann Arbor Community Center
Substance Abuse Program Prevention, outpatient treatment,

assessments, and drug education services involve clients

in both group and individual settings. These services are

designed to serve the general public, but are concentrated on

clients between the ages of six and twenty-five years.

Among its other services is elder substance abuse/chemical dependency outreach and referral services. Their mission is to help senior citizens remain in their homes and avoid unnecessary nursing home placement.

Nicotine Anonymous
12-Step fellowship of men and women helping each other to live lives free of nicotine. For the latest information on meeting site and dates, please check their web site. Older Adult Recovery Center For older adults (age 55+) who need help with alcohol or drug addiction problems. Provides intensive outpatient, short term residential and day treatment in addition to various support groups and counseling. Sliding scale and reduced fees available for eligible participants.
