Anorexia Sample Treatment Plan

  Problems:    

 

 Persistent refusal to maintain a minimally normal body     

 weight

Presence of additional method of weight loss including self induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or diuretics and excessive exercising
 Presence of intense fear of gaining eight with significant disturbance in the perception of the shape or size of his/her body Presence of physical signs of starvation including lab findings, cold intolerance, fatigue, abdominal pain, constipation, hypotension, hypothermia, bradycardia, etc…
Presence of amenorrhea Erosion of dental enamel and calluses on the dorsum of the fingers from contact with teeth during vomiting
Distorted viewing of weight loss as an impressive achievement and sign of extraordinary self control whereas weight gain is perceived as an unacceptable failure of self control    
       
  Goals:    
Restore a more appropriate eating habits and healthier more realistic perception of body size and shape Develop insight and awareness into distorted view of body image and relations to self esteem and societal pressures
Eliminate all purging behavior as well as the use of laxatives and diuretics Establish a healthier sense of self esteem based on criteria other than body weight and image
   

 

   
  Objectives:    
Patient will be honest with his/her pattern of eating Patient will identify distorted thoughts and beliefs that lead to eating disordered behaviors
Patient will disclose any habit of self induced vomiting and control of caloric intake Patient will verbalize positive, healthy self-talks that will encourage normal food intake
Patient will discontinue any and all use of laxatives and diuretics Patient will develop greater insight into relationships between fear of failure, drive for perfection and low self esteem and eating disorder
Patient will admit to persistent preoccupation with body image Patient will verbalize his/her feelings of low self-esteem, loneliness, anger, need for nurturance and distrust that perpetuates eating disorder and distorted self image

Patient will complete thorough physical and psychiatric examination and laboratory studies recommended by a physician

Patient will set reasonable limits on physical exercise
Patient will take any medication as recommended by a physician Patient will attend an eating disorder support groups
Patient will eat at regular intervals, consuming minimum daily calories
